     Frequent Questions

Q: What if I have trouble paying my electric bill?
A: Arrange a payment plan
If you receive a bill that you may have difficulty paying, contact your utility immediately. Utilities will generally work with customers who face financial hardships, but the customer must:
1. Contact the utility as quickly as possible.
2. Follow through on any agreed payment
arrangement.
3. Immediately contact the utility about any changes that could affect the arrangement.
Financial assistance
Households with incomes at or below a certain percentage of federal poverty guidelines – usually 125 percent – can receive winter heating and limited
summer cooling assistance from the state’s Energy Assistance
Program.
4. Many utilities and township trustees also offer energy assistance.

In Addition:  Households with incomes at or below 150 percent of federal poverty guidelines can receive heating season benefits from the state’s Energy Assistance Program.
Local Community Action Agencies (CAAs) distribute funds on first come first served basis. Consumers can get information on these agencies by calling 1-800-382-9895 toll-free. Many utilities offer their own energy assistance programs

Hi, I have a friend, Sidney, who has terminal cancer. He was told he only has 1 to 3 years left. He has been having problems getting the medications he needs. He has no health insurence. Sidney is a great guy, he has a heart of gold always trying to help other people. I am trying to figure out ways my husband and I can help him. He is trying to keep a positive attitude, but it seems things just keep getting harder for him. We live in Myrtle Beach SC. Any ideas you may have in ways we can help Sidney would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jill

I'm a single parent trying to make ends meet. I get no help from any other organizations. I have mounting medicals bills that I'm unable to pay. I'm on leave from a part time job and the only money I have coming in is disability. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years ago. I had a lympectomy, however they did not get it all the first time, so they had to go back in the second time and get the rest. So we have 2 surgery bills to start with. I had 6 weeks of radiation and I am following that with 5 years of pills. That means I have 2 years left. I have been laid off of work twice since I have had cancer. I am the one with the health insurance so we have to pay cobra every time. This time we are paying $850 so far. There have been additional bills for prescriptions. CT Scans. and such along the way. We have run our credit cards up and are now at the point where we do not know how to pay our car insurance, credit cards, and health insurance. As you know, I must keep our insurance so that my cancer will not be exempt. If you know of any way we can get help please let me know. I have tried various sources and it seems that we are in an area not covered by the usual agencies since we live a rural area in NW Iowa.
